Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is an effective, noninvasive skin treatment that does not require time for recovery. It allows the patient to resume their everyday life with minimal obstruction to their daily routine. This treatment is an excellent way to get a deep skin cleansing that rejuvenates and restores the healthy glow and appearance of your skin. Microdermabrasion is just as effective as surgical procedures without the having to submit yourself to the process of surgery.

Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive cosmetic procedure that invigorates dull skin, minimizes large pores, removes sun-damaged skin, decreases age spots, removes fine lines, stretch marks, wrinkles, blemishes, acne, and acne scars. The procedure removes either partially or completely the dead outer surface of the skin, the stratum corneum.  Microdermabrasion machines are made up of a compressor and a pump that combine gentle abrasion with suction to peel the outermost layer of your skin. The technique involves scrubbing the surface of your skin with light abrasion particles then the particles and detached matter are vacuumed off with a device called a wand, which is a hand piece that is used for both the scrubbing and vacuuming of excess matter. Though it sounds harsh, the procedure is virtually painless and does not require anesthesia. If it is being used as a treatment for acne you will have to repeat the treatment periodically.

*If you have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) you should wait twelve months after you stop taking it before you start your microdermabrasion treatment.

Microdermabrasion works in one of two ways:

  • Cleansing skin pores therefore healing existing acne.
  • Removes the dead skin cells therefore preventing acne from developing.
There different techniques of Microdermabrasion:
  • Peeling - Is a painless procedure where debris-leeching micro-crystals are used instead of using harsh chemicals to profoundly exfoliate and deep clean the skin’s surface.
  • Corundum Crystal Machines - Corundum or aluminum oxide crystals are used to scrub the skin surface and remove acne and dead skin as it kills bacteria on the surface of the skin.
  • Other Crystal Machines - Sodium chloride crystals, sodium bicarbonate crystals, or magnesium oxide crystals are used in the same way but these crystals are less abrasive and cheaper.
  • Crystal-Free - Instead of crystals a diamond tipped devices that abrades the skin is used, this allows for a shorter treatment time with less pain and equal results.
